SENIOR PICTURES CARMEL HIGH SCHOOL
What a blast I had photographing senior pictures with Carmel High School Class of 2017 senior Ellen! Ellen had a split session due to rain cutting her first session short. We had photographed for about an hour when the rain started. Instead of dodging rain drops we decided to schedule a second hour later in the week. Thankfully we were both able to make this happen with our schedules. And boy, did that give Ellen the best of both worlds for her senior portrait session. Our first day was overcast with rain looking probable. But our second day was a beautiful, sunny afternoon.
NEVER BE AFRAID OF CLOUDS
I knew at the beginning of Ellen’s first session that she had hoped for some beautiful sunlit images with the sun creating a beautiful back light. Our hope was that the clouds would dissipate and let that sun break through. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. Once the rain started, we decided on a second one hour session later in the week. One hour was going to be easy to fit in after school since we still had the benefit of longer daylight hours. And I didn’t want to risk her being unhappy with the results of her session. In showing Ellen some of her images as we went, she was pleasantly surprised at how they looked on the back of the camera. I think she was afraid they were going to just look gloomy. But what you have to know is that overcast skies create wonderful, even lighting. A little bit of off camera flash creates some nice dimension of light and shadows for beautiful portraits without sunny skies.
ALWAYS PLAN ON YOUR SESSION
I make a point of always touching base with my senior picture sessions whether it be for Senior Pictures for Carmel High School or any other client I’m working with! And if inclement weather is possible, I will stay on top of the latest updates and together we formulate a plan for your session. If you know Indiana weather, you know that rain at 3 pm can easily give way to sunny skies by 4pm or 5pm. Clouds and wet pavement are never a problem. So if inclement weather sets in, we will complete your session at an alternate agreed upon time. I always recommend to my clients to plan on your session unless you hear differently from me.
